Using your hips to improve your karate
For many years, I’ve been pondering the best way to use my hips during karate, and to what end I should be using them.
Do my hips add power, or speed? Do they equate to the same thing?
Should I use my hips at the start of a move, or at the end? Does it make a difference either way?
Is it best to make a big movement with my hips or a small one, and what are the benefits of either choice?
After much pondering, I feel as though I have finally come to an understanding that works, and explains most of the variables.
I don't claim that this is the definitive article on hips, and I may add to it in future as my understanding grows, but I believe it dispels some of the prevailing misunderstandings For now, I sincerely hope that you find it useul in helping you to understand how your hips aid your karate.
